Here at Brooks Cattle Company, we are all about family. To us, that goes beyond just working together as a family. Karen, pictured above, is a 12-year-old cow who has made quite the impression on our hearts. Karen's family is a great example of what our animals mean to us.
Karen was born alongside her twin on January 22, 2013. It was an icy day and just altogether terrible weather. She ended up being brought into the floorboard of Jeremy's truck to warm her up. She got her name because she kept trying to stand up and climb up onto the seat where Jeremy's dad was sitting, and while he was struggling to keep her down, he said, "Down, Karen!" (Talladega Nights, anyone?)

Karen (the calf) became a bottle calf. Garrett and Steven, about 10 and 6 years old at the time, raised her. She joined the herd and to this day is one of the most profitable cows we have ever raised. She has calved on time, every year, and has never needed human intervention. She currently has daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, and now a great-great granddaughter active with us. Keep reading to see all of Karen's family that are still in our herd today!

Not pictured are the many steers raised throughout the years! With eleven total daughter/grands/great/great-great grands still active in the herd, she is very much a grandma cow. Currently twelve years old, we are anxiously waiting for her 2025 calf and grateful for the time we have left with her. We love Karen and are excited to see her genetics through her offspring for years to come!
